Tech Tips

Tech tip of the Month

Scorch and Sibelius 5
If you have purchased an upgrade or new copy of Sibelius 5 and wish to use scorch, then you will need to uninstall the scorch loaded from your Sibelius 5 disk and down load the latest version on line.

Installing Sibelius 5
Google  task bar and google ……….
There seems to be compatibility issues with running Google Desktop and Sibelius 5 at the same time which results in Sibelius 5 closing down.
The symptoms include crashing when ever a Save or Open dialog box is opened or getting the following error message when starting Sibelius 5:
Application failed to initialise: 0xc00000142
Solution:
To use Google Desktop in conjunction with Sibelius 5 please follow this procedure:

  • Download the autoruns program from Microsoft Sysinternals
  • Download and install the application found near the bottom of the web page.
  • Double click autoruns.exe and click YES or OK.
  • In the 'AppInit' tab, look for the 'Google Desktop' entry, and uncheck it.
  • After making this setting reboot your machine.

This prevents Google Desktop from hooking into every application that runs, whilst still functioning correctly.

On Windows vista  make sure you follow the administrator advice, even if you are the only one using the computer!
On Mac make sure you have the most up to date version of your operating system.

One of the most useful functions of Sibelius is the ability to turn scores into audio tracks and then burn them to disk –this can also cause a few headaches! But the cure is usually quite simple - ……..
If you have Sibelius versions of Garriton Personal Orchestra or Rock and Pop there is an update available now so you can make it compatible with Sibelius 5

If you are new to Sibelius or any of our other Music software programs Please spend some time reading help files and doing the tutorials. You will get much more use from the software that way and hence get much better value for you money!
